Walk along almost any road of interwar or post-war semis in Caerphilly and you will see the same thing over the back fences: a line of conifers planted as a quick screen decades ago, now two or three times the height anyone intended. What we suggest depends on how far gone the row is. If there is still green growth to cut back to, a height reduction and a trim of the sides can bring it back into order. On the estates built around Caerphilly in recent years, the trees are small now but some were planted closer to the house, the drive or the drains than they should have been. A bit of formative pruning while they are young is cheap in effort and saves a much bigger job later. If a young tree is simply in the wrong place, moving or removing it now is far easier than in ten years.
